Established in 1996 by professor emeritus of education, Dr. Margaret Hiatt. “Peggy” Hiatt left her own legacy through the many teachers that she helped to prepare and the many lives that they, in turn, would influence. Peggy also contributed to the Western community through her participation with the Jensen Arctic Museum, Gentle House, and Foundation Board activities. Peggy Hiatt was nominated as the Monmouth-Independence Outstanding Citizen.
For Incoming WOU Students:
Awarded as a four-year, full expense scholarship for a student who otherwise would be unable to attend WOU and who is intending to major in elementary education. Preference given to Native American Indian or Alaskan Native origin.
